Bali Geckos dined out on East Timor Crocs

16 June 2009 Northern Territory News GREY MORRIS - THE Bali Geckos consumed the East Timor Crocs with a flick of the tongue in Saturday's inaugural Crikey Cup international match at Marrara's TIO Stadium.

The Geckos trailed at half-time but found their feet in the last two quarters to win running away, 7.9 (51) to 5.4 (34).

Centreman and club president Mark Parthezius was the best for the Geckos.

Steve Malseed in a back pocket, playing-coach Peter Muir in the centre and former Pyramid Hill champion Jacko Carroll were other solid performers for the islanders.

East Timor was best served by St Marys spearhead Anthony Vallejo in a variety of forward and defensive roles.

Former soldier and Waratahs forward Brad Percy was another good performer, along with big bad bustling Luke Gosling.

Geckos spokesman Jacko Carroll said the support of Australia Zoo and the AFLNT was appreciated in both clubs's efforts to make it an annual curtainraiser to Darwin's AFL match.

The Geckos' next match is against the Jakarta Bintangs in the Indonesian capital on Saturday.

The match marks the much anticipated launch of AFL Asia, with associated programs like Auskick to encourage young people to take up the Australian game.
