Calls for halt to construction of luxury hotel in Timor as 15 human skeletons excavated from site

Pelican Paradise workers discovered fifteen human skeletons in Tasi-Tolu Radio Timor Leste, February 27, 2010 language source: Tetun -  Laborers from The Pelican Paradise Company, a construction group, discovered fifteen skeletons in Tasi-Tolu while digging in preparation for a five star hotel.

The skeletons were found in two different places, and there is a possibility that even more could be found with more excavation.

The Coordinator for the Twelfth of November Committee, Gregorio Saldanha, has said that the forensic team will not be able determine the skeletons as being twelfth of November victims until there is a proper examination.

Meanwhile, Frederico Santos da Costa, who had many of his family killed by the Indonesian military, has urged the Government to support the forensic team to examine the skeletons and work out how the people died.

The Twelve of November Committee Coordinator, Gregorio Saldanha, has called for the Pelican Paradise Company to stop its construction project in Tasi-Tolu for a while following the finding of fifteen skeletons in the area.

The company is currently in the process of building a five star hotel, but have temporarily halted construction due to the finding.

“The project construction should be stopped for a while in order to give the forensic teams an opportunity to dig and collect all the skeletons,” Mr. Saldanha said.
