East Timor Legal News 4 Nov 2011 Source: Independente 31 October 2011 - The Timorese National Police (PNTL) officers bashed several university students, landing one in hospital, during a demonstration calling for the Government to resolve a land dispute in Lecidere on Friday.

The protest was organised by the Timor-Leste University Student Front (FMTL) and one of two families involved in a dispute over land in the sub village of Capela.

One of the students was taken to the Guido Valadares Hospital  in Dili after the conflict between the police and the demonstrators.

A student who did not want her name published, told the Independente that the student collapsed after she was bashed by police.

The police officers bashed the student about nine times, she said.

The police also collected banners of the student movement that the affected community had displayed as part of the protest.
